Home Internet Connectivity

Penn and DoF software applications that require a network connection will only function well with reliable, continuous, high-speed Internet connections, such as:

  • Comcast/Xfinity
  • Verizon/FiOS
  • Similar broadband (high speed) Internet service

Dial-up, mobile hotspots, teathering, and MiFi are not supported.

To ensure a stable connection:

  • Home Internet speeds should be at least 20Mbps (Megabits per second) download – test via https://www.speedtest.net
  • Wired PC connections (instead of WiFi) to the home Internet router are encouraged to improve connection stability
    1. Network cable are available at most large retailers, office supply stores, and Amazon
    2. Look for “Ethernet Patch cable”, at least 6 feet (at least Category 6) to connect the docking station to cable or FIOS modem. If wireless is only method, computer should be close to home router.


Other Home Accessories

  • 20”- 24” LCD or LED flat-panel monitor
    1. 1920x1080 resolution
    2. Minimum of one HDMI connection
    3. DoF laptops support up to two external monitors with docking station
    4. Avoid Dell’s E Series monitors
  • Dell or Lenovo Docking station with power adapter
  • Keyboard and mouse: USB wired, or Bluetooh wireless
  • Webcam: (1080p resolution) with microphone is optional
  • External Speakers: (5 watts) are optional
  • USB Headsets with micro
  • Home Printers:  Consult with ITS to ensure you acquire a printer that is compatible with your DoF laptop and software configuration.  If you are going to be printing documents which contain medium or high risk information please purchase a home shredder as well.


Home Computer Requirements

Personal computers must meet minimum technical specifications as noted below.  If you need assistance determining if your computer meets these specifications, contact ITS and we will assist you.

Please note:  Personally-owned/home computers are not permitted access to the Finance network/VPN.
