ITS manages all computer purchases for the division and general specifies computers that follow university computing standard recommendations.

Computers recovered from department staff are reallocated to replacement hires or other positions.  Computers for "net new" headcount must be purchased through ITS.

Division of Finance staff are all allocated the same technology set, funded by the university and approved by DoF executive management:

  • One new computer:  Typically a laptop, Dell or Lenovo
  • One laptop docking station
  • Two, 24" high resolution displays (monitors)
  • One webcam for over-the-display use when laptop is docked (or if using a fixed desktop computer)
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • As needed:  One headset
  • Cables needed for the above
  • All standard, universal software (Office365, web browsers, etc.)
  • Additional technology is exception-based and must be funded by the respective business area

To request a new or replacement computer

Submit a new ticket requesting a computer, specifying desktop or laptop.  Determination of laptop or desktop configuration is decided by DoF department management - not ITS.

When can I get a new computer?

Most computers are replaced on a three to five year replacement schedule.  All computer purchase costs are the responsibility of the ordering department.  To find out when a computer is scheduled for routine replacement, submit a ticket and our staff will respond with a tentative upgrade date.

Determination of Desktop or Laptop

Determination of computer type is at the discretion of department senior management.  ITS will consult with staff to help determine the most appropriate computer setup and configuration to meet the needs of each employee.

Supported Manufacturers

ITS currently supports university-purchased Dell, Lenovo, and Microsoft Surface computers as primary computing devices.

What happens to old computers?

Computers recovered during the routine multi-year refresh cycle are either reallocated for a lesser need, like a conference room, or are recycled with an approved off-site electronics recycling company.
